My plans and hopes for 2025
It’s that time of year again, where we all get pressured to try and set lofty resolutions that we will not stick to. My plans and hopes for 2025 though are different and something that I am hoping I will stick to and will help me over the coming year. Maybe thinking of it differently we can make plans that will stick and help us long term let’s get into it.
Why new year new me?
I have often wondered why we care that it is a new year to set goals and plans for the year ahead. The truth is we can make healthy life changes at any time, and I always think that the fact that new year falls in the middle of winter to be a bit strange.
Our ancestors certainly wouldn’t have been thinking about setting new goals and plans at a time when most of the wildlife around them would have been hibernating. I have always felt like new years should be in spring it would feel like it made more sense when the world was starting to wake up and come back to life.
So, I decided a while back to move my new years thoughts and feelings for my birthday which is March 16. March feels much more new years to me so this time of year I prefer to think about how I can set firm foundations for the year ahead.
My plans and hopes for 2025 that I put into place this time of year are thinking ahead and then thinking about the small steps I need to get there. I learned this method in therapy for my anxiety disorder, setting small steps to get to the big goals means it is less overwhelming and more attainable.
I want to leapfrog through the coming year and from one goal to the next by taking smaller steps. This way I hope to keep them going and not give up like we often can when we set big goals that are overwhelming and hard to give up.
So, my hopes for the year are the bigger goals, the things I hope to have achieved by the end of the year. Meanwhile, the plans are the smaller steps that I will hopefully set each season in order to keep moving towards those hopes.
In this way, I am hoping that by 2026 I will have set a really lovely routine up so that year will go much better for me. Every year we all hope to do better and be better, and this is never easy to do, but it is something that can be done.

These are the bigger goals that I want to be better at doing by the end of the year:
- Home – We have been living with my mom since the first lockdown during covid, the house has not been decorated since the 90s and needs updating. It also doesn’t feel like home for me, so we really want to get to work on the house.
- Friends – I want to spend more time with friends, whether in person or online maybe video calling. But I want to maybe craft together or just chat but yes more time with friends would be wonderful.
- Witchcraft – I want to do more witchcraft and to incorporate it more fully into my everyday life rather than just when I am at my altar
- Grow my YouTube and Blog – The dream is to make some extra money through my YouTube channel and here on the blog. I am not business minded
- Health first – I want to do more to focus on my health, things like getting back to doing some exercise, cutting down on processed foods we started eating when we moved in with mom, and doing more to look after me instead of everyone else.
My plans for 2025
These are the bite sized plans I have to make my hopes reality:
- Home – I plan to start redecorating the downstairs this year, we are thrifting things that we need and are going to start in the living room in March. June we are doing the kitchen and September we will update the conservatory. We are not doing anything major just painting to update and breaking it up over the year means it will not be overwhelming.
- Friends – I am going to start asking friends who are far away to video call, and I have a friend who has chronic illnesses too so I might organise a craft date on video call with her. Once I get going hopefully it will become easier to ask people and to overcome my anxiety.
- Witchcraft – I am looking into magic that can be done alongside other everyday routines. Such as knot magic and sigils that can be used all the time especially as I am learning to crochet.
- Grow my YouTube and Blog – This has been hard for me with my anxiety, but I want to focus on doing some courses and following more people who give tips and tricks about blogging and YouTube on social media.
- Health first – I need to start getting better morning and evening routines, where I get up earlier and go to sleep earlier. Also, I am doing daily chair yoga with a new year’s course run by Bottoms Down on YouTube. As well as this, I have been setting boundaries and saying no if I am not able to do something.
- Other – An extra goal is to find hobbies where I am offline, so I have started reading more physical books, and I am learning to crochet. I have also bought a beginners embroidery kit so I can start that hobby in the spring when it is lighter.
I hope by sharing my plans and hopes for 2025 that it will keep me accountable and will help me to get things sure it my mind. But as well as this, I hope it helps you to reframe those big goals that come to mind with a new year and to make some smaller and easier to keep up plans. We all want to be a better person by the end of every year, and by setting attainable goals we can all achieve that. Let me know your plans and hopes for the year ahead in the comments below.

I am doing something similar in a notebook using a very similar structure that I learnt at a pain management course from the hospital. My goals are to do leisure activities with my best friend. We stopped doing them from 2020 and we have had some health issues due to our hidden disabilities. I’m already achieving one goal – meeting a friend in a cafe once a month. It’s a big thing for me as I haven’t been going out regularly in a social capacity since 2020. I’m with you on morning and evening routines. I need to have better ones with structure, so am working on that.
